Hot on the heels of Madeleine’s kidnapper

Regular and longtime readers may remember this post from back in May, containing my views on the disappearance of then-three-year-old Madeleine McCann.

Turns out, as time has gone by, more and more people have trouble with the McCanns' version of events. A poll reveals that 70 per cent of people surveyed disbelieve the pair. That's some pretty bad PR they've got going on.

And now -- what, almost six months after the alleged abduction? -- they have finally released an artist's impression of the man they believe took their daughter. This has come from the mind's eye of a friend who was with them that night. A friend who didn't think anything of it at the time. That's it on the right. Oh, hold on... something's missing... Yes, HIS ENTIRE FUCKING FACE! So what we have is a man wearing normal-looking clothes, with greasy dark hair. It was a fucking foreigner what done it. A greasy fucking Portuguese wop. Yeah, that's it. Stone the wops!

What a crock of fucking shit. These people are bullshit merchants of the highest order. I don't know whether they "did it" or not. There are loads of stories doing the rounds, including the one that they would give their kids medication of some sort to keep them asleep while they were out having fun. Certainly the kid in the picture above looks pretty fucking unconscious, right.

What I do know, though, is that every new story that comes out puts me in mind of when you're a kid and you do something wrong and when your parents ask what happened you keep changing the story.
"Umm, what it was, right, we were keeping a check on them every half hour."
"What it was, okay, um, there was this shutter on the window and it was broken."
"Thing is, see, we were taking it in turns babysitting all the kids, who were all in one room."
"So, anyway, right, there was this swarthy-looking guy carrying a kid off."

Is it any wonder nobody can believe them? The whole thing sounds as dodgy as... well, I don't know, but some very dodgy stuff.

I'm sorry, but, I go back to: what kind of parent leaves their baby twins and 3 yr old alone in a hotel room to go out to dinner? How can they enjoy themselves?

I don't know about guilt, but, they certainly weren't practicing good parenting policies.

I agree with Pool. Even if they didn't fake this little girl's kidnapping, leaving a toddler in charge of baby twins to GO EAT DINNER makes them too stupid to be breeding.

And that drawing looks like its out of a children's book.

I too, am not sure if they did it or not... but I hate them still and no matter what. I can't picture them as victims.

meanwhile the little girl remains vanished. and they tell you the first 48hrs are crucial!

if only Horatio was real!

dude I really dig your labels! they are a post of their own.

Yeah, there's something very odd about the whole affair. But the vilifying of the Portuguese police and press in our own glorious media is distinctly hard to stomach.

The whole thing smacks of bullshit - basically if youre selfish to fuck off and feed your face whilst your apartment remains ajar with 3 sleeping babies then youre selfish enough to move the posts to sedate them enough - and like a bullet to a cow pat it blows up in your face...

As you know, I completely and utterly disagree, and I know it will come out in time. It might be a long time though. They would never have stayed in Portugal so long if they did it. It's 70 percent of Spanish people who disbelieve them, by the way. :-)

I heard a rumor a while back that the Kill Bill collection would be hitting our shores around Christmas - with some of the black and white scenes (the gorier ones) restored to full color to show all the blood they couldn't get away w/ in theaters...

Don't know if that's good or bad really, I though the black and white bits gave the movie more character.

I don't know if they did it, or not. Certainly, they are criminally responsible.
They left 3 small children ALONE and went out to eat, or whatever the eff they were doing. I don't CARE what they were doing. They left the kids alone, in a hotel room, in a strange country.
Most hotels could direct you to child I care, I would think. I mean, this wasn't a Motel 6, this was a fricking vacation spot where doctors hang out. Gimme a break. They could afford child care, they just didn't bother.
Yeah, great composite of the boogeyman there.
WHY weren't these people arrested for child endangerment? WHY do they still have the other two kids? WHAT will it take for the powers to be to figure out that these two suck wind as parents?
They make me sick.

"They would never have stayed in Portugal so long if they did it."
but why leave the minute they are told they are officially suspects, they left.
"It's 70 percent of Spanish people who disbelieve them, by the way. :-)"
er, what difference does that make? aren't the spanish able to judge character?

sorry *, but i had to ask?

my lad is 7. we went camping this year and for the first time he was allowed the freedom to go to the play area on his own, but we made sure he went no further and he kept coming back to see we were there!
all kids need a bit of length on there boundaries, but to leave three kids that young on their own is nothing short of criminal in itself.
ben needhams mother was on tv the other week, and it has to be said, she never got half the attention and "help" they are getting, but then, she was/is working class.
i still think they are as guilty as sin, and one day the truth will come out.
it's all taken away the point that a little girl is missing, presumed dead.

Cappy, the difference it makes is it is factually accurate that its 70% of Spanish people, not 70% of ALL people who disbelieve them. They are widely believed in England. That's the difference. Anything else you read into it wasn't there, thank you very much.
Also: people saying things like 'she looks like a killer' is exactly the kind of ignorant dangerous speculation that makes the papers so disgusting to read daily.

LUVM: Are they widely believed here? I can't see how that's possible, though I've seen no figures either way.

the programme was only shown in spain to promote the "helpline" set up there.
so let the programme be shown on british terrestrial telly and then see how many give them the thumbs up.

and i never said she looks like a killer. i just don't believe that they are telling the full truth. i think whatever happened was an accident, and that panic may have taken over...

lets agree to disagree shall we.
apart from the papers, i agree with you on that! (except the daily star, which will be ok as long as ziggy and that posh wannabe are still breathing!)

Hi asterisk,
Yes i did write 'she looks like a killer'. It was written on behalf of friend of mine who wanted me to quote that bit from him to you when i read your article to him over the phone. He is a university DR/author and liked and agreed with what you wrote.I try not to get swayed by what is written in the paper, but it does all look very fishy to me.In a strange way i either hope the girl is returned unharmed, or if the unthinkable has happened it is something to do with the parents.Am i wrong in thinking this, i do feel guilty even writing this sort of stuff, but 'the elephant that's sitting in the room' can't be ignored. Brave piece of writing from you, by the way asterisk.

hello everyone (I love being the one disagreeing with everyone!) I think they are believed by the majority of people in the UK, from what I've read, and also from word of mouth. I've not heard one person 'in real life' (!) say they think they did it.
All I can say is... innocent until proven guilty! I think that Rober Murat guy is a bit dodge but I'd still not pass judgement until it went to court, personally.
I'm not saying I'm not wrong about things, I am, but this is one area I don't feel confident going down.
That's my two pennies!
And I WILL come back and say 'I told you so'! haha.

Coyote: And they've got us all hook, line and sinker, or so they think.

Shaun: That's cool. I don't mind who says she looks like a killer! I have no opinion either way in that regard, but I don't like 'em: they were negligent at best, criminal at worst.

LUVM: See, there you have the advantage, cos I don't see many real-life people! See, I don't find Murat anything other than a scapegoat.
