Holidaying in Muslim countries is a bad idea. How many times must we watch Westerners die in attacks on tourists in Muslim countries before we all realize this?
I know, of course, that you can't tar all Muslims with the same brush, BUT clearly there is a violent minority that does not want our foreign cash in their country. Until the respective authorities quell these idiots, we should do what they want and not go there.
Hit them where it hurts, in their pockets.

British tourists seem to have a very relaxed attitude of "won't happen to me". Then they wonder what happened when it does.
Shame, really, because some of these Muslim countries are very beautiful and steeped in history.

As I'd tried to say earlier, the overwhelming fact is, nothing will happen to them.
How many Brit tourists have been to Jordan this year? 1 death out of all of those is not bad odds.
Compare that to the death toll on, ooh I dunno, British roads this year alone for some perspective.
This is why civilians should be allowed firearms.

In a friendly way, I say to Muslim countries: "You have issues. Call me when you sort them out and I will visit your beautiful country."

Sir Stew: Absolutely, odds are you'll have no problem. But when you do hear of Western tourists being killed or kidnapped or whatever, where were they?And you can guarantee someone was shouting "Allah akbar".
Cliff: Exactly. I'm not being racist. And Lord knows I did my bit for Muslim relations with my posts on the recent Lebanon atrocity, but sometimes you've got to tell it like it is. Sad but true.

Will: That was in fact something that I was going to mention in my post, but I had to rush out and do some work stuff. Grr. The simple answer is that it seems equally unsafe (or safe, depending on your POV) everywhere these days when it comes to terrorist action.
Arguably, though, the crux of my post is tourism sanctions against terrorist actions.
I would not have visited Northern Ireland at the height of IRA activity, and I would not have visited Madrid (and certain other areas of Spain) when ETA action was at its peak. NYC is pretty much only a target of "outside" factions -- i.e., anti-Western Muslims.
And if we take into account large-scale terrorist actions of the past five years, we are largely talking about extremist Muslim groups, so my original point still stands: remove tourism dollars from their countries.
I don't want to come across as racist or extreme in my views, because I'm really not. But there has been a notable lack of condemnation of extreme Islamicism from within the Muslim community. If they had a reason to condemn it (such as needing Western money again), maybe they'd be a bit quicker off the mark.
Well, I don't think we should even DEAL with trade with Saudi Arabia. That's how I feel. It was their citizens who attacked the wtc. Get real. I don't understand how any American, almost anyone can drive a car after 9/11.

I have a best friend who is Iranian. His former country doesn't believe in all the shit of their leader. But they also don't want to be American and generic. There is a big difference between being racist and wanting to live a different way. Iran doesn't care about England or America...they just want to live their lives.
Their leader is a narcissist and show off. It is better to ignore him.
Avoid where terrorism is being played out against tourists.
When countries stop invading or attacking or visiting war stops.
Let's face it, we are only occidentals in their eyes.
