As a non-English mothertongue, I was always puzzled by "the three Rs", which is at best a misleading, at worst an uneducational way of referring to the key elements of the syllabus.
I think Big Bird, mortified by his inability to explain to kids the difference between "their" and "they're", "its" and it's", has stuck his big bum up in the air and hidden his head in the sand...
Poor Big Bird.
